Police Officer Salary Overview

The primary role of a police force is to impose and maintain law enforcement, rules and regulations in the society. This challenging role can be performed by a police officer who is physically and mentally fit. However, the aspect of annual salary and benefits cannot be overlooked especially if a profession is being supervised by the government itself. Of course when a responsibility is as overwhelming as that of a cop's job, the salary is expected to be a lucrative one as well particularly when it's a profession which is so demanding and full of risks.

As per the estimation of cops salary in the US over the past few years, an average of $52,810 was calculated in 2008. The police officers in the United States have much feasibility and benefits in hand. They have medical insurance apart from various facilities that includes getting paid for overtime work as well.

In 2010, an approximation of a cop's salary was deduced to be an average wage of $53,340 annually. However, 10 percent of the police officers who either had high academic excellence record or were senior officials with greater amount of responsibility were able to earn more than $83,510 on annual bases. The pay scale tends to increase with seniority, increasing responsibilities and educational additions to a cop's profile.
The median police pay is usually in a range of $51,590 in the federal government while in the state government, a cop's average wage is $58,200. In the local government state, the pay of a cop is $55,710 on an average every year.
Apart from the salary divisions compartmentalized for different states for police officers, the fact that you get to serve your country and being a symbol of patriotism and selflessness is beyond the measure of what you are paid for. Holistically, a cop has a stable and lucrative salary package that ensures a good standard of living in the US.
